*NEWBORN = BIRTH – 2 WEEKS OLD
1. WHAT ARE YOUR NEWBORN PACKAGES?
Please visit our “investment” menu item above and click on “session info” for complete details. Any one of our packages would be great for a new baby, but many prefer to take advantage of the multi-session packages. Investing in the 3 or 5-Session package will save you money in the long run!
2. WHAT AGE IS BEST FOR NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHS?
We prefer and recommend that you get that peanut in here ASAP! Your session will be more successful if you and your newborn can schedule pictures before the baby is 2 weeks old. Older babies tend to sleep less and do not curl up as easily. We also notice that newborn acne and even cholic may flare up at around 2 weeks of age. A sleepy, positionable new baby will make for a smooth, productive photo session.
3. HOW LONG WILL MY NEWBORN SESSION BE?
It is 100% dependent upon the newborn. We shoot each newborn session according to the needs of each individual baby. It is very common for the session to take the whole 2 hours, allowing plenty of time for feedings, positioning and comforting. On the flip side, if your baby is just having a bad day…he’s the boss. We would be happy to cut your session in half and let you and your newborn come back a day or two later to give it one more shot.
4. WHAT SHOULD MY NEWBORN WEAR?
Nothing at all. Newborns make beautiful and fascinating images because of how tiny and new they are. Hiding them in a bunch of clothes is not necessary. Save the cute outfits for your 6-month session! If your baby turns out to be extra “leaky” we can get away with just a diaper. Girls, however, can sometimes benefit from a hair bow.
5. I WANT LOTS OF PICTURES OF MY NEWBORN SMILING AND WIDE-EYED!
Although we will certainly try and capture those moments if they happen, your newborn session will be much more successful if you know that newborns are best photographed when they are sleeping. The signature look of a peaceful, cozy, sleeping newborn isn’t possible when your little one is awake and wiggling. We are always excited about a surprise smile from a newborn, but please don’t base the success of your shoot on smiles and eye contact. Those precious moments will happen at the 3-month and beyond sessions!
5. WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY NEWBORN SESSION?
- Your newborn
- a helper (dad, a grandparent, a nanny, etc.)
- plenty of food (bottle or breast)
- diapers, wipes, pacifiers
- any sentimental/decorative items you may want in the photograph (not required)
